Good things come to those who thrift.
So, today is Monday, August 17th, National Thrift Store Day! Why is this day any different from any other day? Well, I guess technically it isn’t. For those of us who thrift, we may choose to make it a point to thrift when we may not have to on this particular day. That is certainly the case for me today!
I am technically not supposed to be thrifting too much right now, since I have an abundance of unlisted inventory and I had to bring the contents of my storage unit home. However, a long-time local thrift store that my mother and I had gone to quite a few times is moving. They had a 50% off sale on Saturday, so, of course, I had to go. I gave myself a limit of $20, but only spent $13, so I stayed under budget. Considering I am not supposed to thrift at the moment, my condition to be able to participate in National Thrift Store Day was that I had to get the items that I purchased on Saturday listed in my eBay store. Did I do it??
YES, I did! I think it is incredibly important to get the inventory that I have already sourced managed before getting too much more. However, after careful consideration, I decided against going. Instead, I am remaining diligent and sticking to getting my current inventory listed. This takes a great deal of self-control, as the thrill of the hunt is SO MUCH more exciting than adding the items to my store. It’s what has to be done, so that is what I am doing on National Thrift Store Day! I am giving myself a raincheck, however!
I will use that raincheck when I feel that I have made enough headway to feel a day at the bins is justified. I will spend the day on a mission, and it will be a phenomenal day! My mission for that day? I will go to the Goodwill Bins for the entire day, open to close! Now, I know many folks already do that, some even daily. For me, though, I have to refrain from sourcing too much, even on the day I cash in my National Thrift Day raincheck.
On my raincheck day, I will be far more selective. I will bring my food and drink in the car and make a day of it. I will take a break in the middle of the day to enjoy my meal, unload one load (possibly-if I think it is going to go to the weight needed to get the discount, I’ll hold off). Either way, I am going to take at least one break to ensure that I am properly nourished and hydrated. To me, this will be my reward after reaching an item count goal in my store from the inventory that I already have.
What about you? Are you going thrifting today? If so, where are you going, and are you making an event out of it? Will you be going solo or with friends/family? Do you have plans to take breaks, etc.? Have you “celebrated” this day in the past, or will you plan to do so in the future? How about your normal thrifting? How much time do you typically spend in a shop?
Whatever you do, thrifting or not, I hope you have the most beautiful day!
